WAEYC serves, educates, and advocates for early learning professionals and the early learning profession.  

 

WAEYC (Washington Association for the Education of Young Children) is the professional association for those working with children ages birth through eight years old in Washington. We have 15 local Affiliate Chapters and almost 2,000 members throughout the state.  

  

    We are:

  • Dedicated to providing quality professional development opportunities that are affordable.

  • An advocate for equitable compensation for staff in our profession.
  • Committed to providing and supporting education that is inclusive, culturally relevant and promotes anti-bias.
  • A voice for high quality care, education and support for all young children and their families by participating in legislative action and public awareness.
  • An active participant and leader, coordinating efforts with other professionals and community groups.

Supporting Children & Families

WAEYC’s Vision for Children and Families

• Foster and advocate for the healthy growth and development of children and families

• Support and nurture appropriate developmental, cultural and linguistic practices for children and families

• Facilitate and/or support individual, collective, and collaborative efforts to improve all early childhood learning and out-of-school care programs

To support our vision in 2006 we:

• Trained 1002 early childhood professionals statewide.

Distributed $540,000 in STARS scholarships enabling child care providers to attend 5974 trainings.

• Distributed grants and technical assistance to 8 communities implementing inclusive preschool programs.

• Supported 178 adult educators and 251 training organizations providing STARS trainings.

• Promote professional growth and leadership development

• Build and maintain a strong membership organization

• Value and respect diverse viewpoints and perspectives from all who share a commitment to quality education and development of young children and families.

To support our vision in 2006  we:

• Supported 1698 members through our

programs and services

• Distributed welcome letters and save

the date postcards to members for our Affiliate Chapters.

•Hosted QRIS forums in English and

Spanish to gather member input.

•Supported 10 AEYC leaders and staff

to attend 7 state and national leadership development opportunities.

Supporting Public Policy

WAEYC’s Vision for Public Policy

• Advocate for early learning and quality care for young children at local, state, and federal levels

• Provide leadership, cooperation, coordination, and collaboration supporting critical issues and public policy and social change efforts

• Build public understanding and support for quality early care and learning needs of young children and their families

• Advocate for appropriate compensation for professionals in the field

To support our vision in 2006, we:

• Advocated for the creation of an early learning department.

• Thanked 60 policy makers and advocates for Building Better Futures for all Children.

• Testified in support of increased funding for the career and wage ladder and collective bargaining rights for family child care providers.
